Sample Syllabi

The following syllabi are being currently used for introductory physics courses here at NC State University. The instructor names and course schedule will vary depending on the semester. Summer school meets daily for 24 days and compresses the schedule to include the same material.

Current lab schedules are posted online. Associated 1-credit hour lab for PY 205 is PY 206. Associated 1-credit hour lab for PY 208 is PY 209. The lab is incorporated into PY 211 and PY 212. Laboratory Schedules

Changes to PY 205/208

Beginning in Spring 2014, the lecture and lab components of PY 205 and PY 208 will be split into separate courses. The 205 lab will be PY 206 (one credit hour) and the 208 lab will be PY 209.

PY 205 and PY 206 are co-requisites; you will be required to sign up for both courses at the same time.

PY 208 and PY 209 are co-requisites; you will be required to sign up for both courses at the same time.

There is no longer an 'N' or 'M' distinction between sections.

PY 205 will continue to include a separate problem-solving session.

PY 205 and PY 208 will continue to give common tests on Tuesday evenings (three midterms in a semester). Students will be required to enroll in a time block from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesdays to reserve this time for tests.
