One crucial aspect to developing nanoscale devices is the application and control of electric fields on a nano- and molecular level. The Clarke group investigates the interaction of polar self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with polar and non-polar substrates. Below is an illustration of the types of motion available in a SAM.
