Awards and Honors

• Battelle Rencontres, 1967
• National Science Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow, 1969 (award declined)
• Fellow of the APS, 1990
• Marcel Grossman Prize in General Relativity, 2003
• Dannie Heineman Prize of the American Physical Society (APS)

Accomplishments

  • First mathematically well-posed (i.e., uniquely solvable) form of the non-linear system of partial differential equations which constrain the initial configuration of the field Einstein gravitational field (problem unresolved since 1916).
  • First well-posed form of the complete set of 10 Einstein equations.
  • Established first analytic form of the Einstein equations adapted for use in numerical integration.

The Way Ahead

  • Complete monograph Dynamical Principles of General Relativity.
  • Continue teaching "Geometric Methods in Physics."
  • Generate more first-class publications on relevant topics in theoretical physics.
