Areas of Interest

My research interests are focused on rare earth doped nanoparticles. These particles emit in the visible when excited in the Near Infrared. The research includes synthesis of the nanoparticles, bio-conjugation, their photophysics and bio-applications such as biosensors and bio-therapeutic agents.

Another area of focus of my research is in the epigenetic mapping of DNA and chromatin. My efforts are concentrated on techniques to identify specific methylation and acetylation markers at genomic resolution.

My current research focuses on 3 main goals:
  1. Enhancement of upconversion emission through plasmonic coupling to metal nanofeatures.
  2. Applications of UCNPs as biosensors in microarrays.
  3. Application of UCNPs as biotherapeutics in photodynamic therapy.
