Business Meeting

4th Annual Fall Meeting

Appalachian State University

October 9, 1999

 

1.  Roll Call: Haskell, Hubisz, Wetli, Mamola, Bennett, Briggs, McAlexander, and about 30 other members.

2.  The Minutes of the Spring 1999 Meeting were accepted as presented on a motion by Bo Wessell seconded by Gordon Shepherd.

3.  The Treasurer reported a balance of $3258.20 in an interest bearing checking account and $1043.10 in a CD.  The usual comments about the fluidity of finances before, during, and after a meeting were made.  Bo Wessell moved and Gordon Shepherd  seconded that the report be accepted.  Passed unanimously.

4.  The Section Representative's report was given by Karl Mamola.  The highlights are given in the attached "North Carolina Section Report."

5.  The only member-at-large report was that the two-year college meeting Friday evening was quite informative.

6.  Old Business

                1.  Larry Cain encouraged members to plan on attending the Spring 2000 Meeting at Davidson.  Arnold Arons is the featured speaker with Tom Greenslade a potential speaker.  Workshops are planned on Physlets with special events for high school teachers.

                2.  The Fall 2000 Meeting will be a joint meeting with SACS in South Carolina.  The Spring 2001 Meeting will be held at the North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics in Durham.

7.  New Business

                1.  Members were reminded that elections will be held at the Spring 2000 Meeting for Four-Year College/University Representative, Vice-President, and Secretary-Treasurer.

                2.  Several prizes were drawn for items donated by AAPT, Bernard O. Beck, and Vernier Software.  We also thank Appalachian State University especially the local committee, Saunders College Publishing, Brooks/Cole, John Wiley & Sons, North Carolina State University, and Spectrum Techniques for support for the meeting.

                3.  Denise Wetli encouraged members to attend the joint mathematics and physics meeting at Wake Technical Community College on March 30-31, 2000.

8.  Meeting adjourned just before 2:00 p.m.
