Minutes
Business Meeting
NCS-AAPT
3rd Annual Fall Meeting
University of North Carolina - Asheville
November 7, 1998
1, Roll Call: Hubisz, Patty, Wetli, Mamola, McAlexander, Haskell, McMurray, plus about 20 members with more dropping in as the meeting progressed. Bennett was hospitalized and Hernandez was unable to attend.
2. Minutes - Spring 1998 Meeting: It was moved by Wessell and seconded by McAlexander that the minutes be accepted as distributed. Motion passed unanimously.
3. Treasurer's Report (John Hubisz): With the usual reminder that funds are very fluid just prior to a meeting it was reported that we have a balance of $2907 in an interest-bearing checking account and a $1000 CD.
4. Section Representative Report (Karl Mamola): A report on the AAPT council activity, reminder of the reduced rate for section members not yet national AAPT members, and a reminder to members to log-on to the "psrc" web site at the AAPT.
5. Members-at-Large Reports: Nothing significant to report although the TYC is still quite active and had a good meeting over lunch.
6. Old Business
1. Spring Meeting discussion resulted in Forsyth Tech volunteering to replace NCSSM as their building program is still way behind schedule. Bob Tyndall will be the host and Denise Wetli will be the program chair.
2. Future Meetings: Spring 1999 @ Forsyth Tech Fall 1999 @ Appalachian State
Spring 2000 @ Davidson College
Fall 2000 @ ???
7. New Business
1. Nominations are being sought for the positions of Vice-President, Pre-College Representative, and Section Representative.
2. Drawing for prizes: We waited for the arrival of the SACS members returning from their business meeting. Prizes from various vendors were then drawn from tickets distributed to attendees. Other vendors contributed to the coffee and snacks that were made available during the meeting. See the list of vendors on the program and remember to thank them and stay familiar with their products.
3. Other business: A few announcements were made about the locations of the afternoon sessions and the slightly revised times as a result of the very popular demonstrations of Gene Hecht that went overtime. The participation of SACS members was recognized as a favorable contribution to the meeting and suggestions were made about SACS hosting a meeting in NW SC or NE GA. No action was taken.
8. Adjourn: Moved by Bo Wessell, we adjourned at 1400 plus a bit.
