Business Meeting
NCS-AAPT
2nd Annual Fall Meeting
Lenoir-Rhyne College
October 11, 1997
1. Roll Call: Hubisz, Patty, Haskell, McMurray, plus 30 members.
2. The Minutes of the Spring 1997 Meeting were accepted as distributed (Haskell moved and Oberhofer seconded.)
3. The Treasurer reported that we are in good shape with a balance before the meeting expenses of $1620.28.
4. Karl Mamola (Section Representative) reported on upcoming national meetings and reduced dues for new members of the AAPT who are members of an AAPT Section through notes that he sent to the Secretary. (Notes on file.)
5. Reports by members-at-large indicated sparse activity of the groups accept the TYC folks.
6. Because the NC School of Science & Mathematics's building program was slowing down Hugh Haskell asked that their commitment for a meeting be delayed and Gaylord Hageseth volunteered UNC - Greensboro for the Spring 1998 Meeting.
7. New Business
1. Members were reminded that the nominations committee was looking for nominations for vice-president and TYC representative.
2. The motion to grant emeritus status to those members who petitioned was unanimously accepted.
3. The proposal to award an undergraduate student prize was unanimously accepted.
4. As Monty Laycox, vice-president, had moved from the Section, Rick Swanson moved and Bo Wessell seconded the nomination of Denise Wetli to fill the position. Nominations ceased and Ms. Wetli was unanimously elected.
5. Members from SACS as well as NCS agreed that this joint meeting was a success and suggested that we do it again soon noting that the Asheville Meeting would be a good opportunity.
6. Prizes from exhibitors were drawn for from tickets given to members attending the business meeting.
7. A vote of thanks to the folks at Lenoir-Rhyne for hosting the meeting was unanimously endorsed.
8. Forest Rennick moved that we adjourn.
