Awards

Last Fall Meeting, Sarah Baxter of UNC-A won the $100 prize for the best undergraduate student paper and Donald Collins won the $150 towards expenses to present a similar paper at a national meeting suitably noting the support of the NCS-AAPT. As there will be prizes for the best undergraduate student paper, the best graduate student paper, and the best pedagogical paper, please keep notes and make recommendations to any section officer to aid in their choice.

Karl Mamola (Have you seen his book?) is chairman of the Awards Committee and has several candidates nominated for the Walter C. Connolly Award ("An award to recognize outstanding pre-college teachers in the Section.") We thank our sponsors for contributing to support these awards.

Tidbits

Vonnie Hicks did not find California to his liking and has returned to NC. He may be looking for a teaching position in a high school. Contact him at VMHicks@aol.com.

I heard on the radio that the NCSSM finally dedicated their new building! Next Spring in Durham?

Nominations

Nominations for the positions of Section Representative, Vice-President, and Pre-College Member-at-Large are being sought for the election at this meeting. Karl Mamola has been nominated for the position of Section Representative. Helen Briggs has been nominated for Vice-President and John Kolena has been nominated for the position of Pre-College Member-at-Large.

Pre-Registration

Pre-registration (Fill in the form included with this mailing!) is always important, but at this meeting it is very important. We must know early, roughly how many will be in attendance. Even if you do not take advantage of early registration please send a note to the secretary-treasurer that you intend to be at the meeting. Registration costs at the meeting will be higher! If you wish to sign up for a workshop do so early. If you wish to be notified of workshops that are pending (TI & Vernier) say so on your pre-registration form.

Sponsors, please note that your sponsorship includes registration and all that goes with it.
