Call for Papers and Posters

Abstracts and posters may be submitted by NCS-AAPT members. Non-members presentations must be sponsored by members and include a footnote with the statement: “Sponsored by (member’s name).” Any graduate, undergraduate, or high school student who has conducted research may contribute a poster. One paper or poster presentation per participant, although co-authorship on multiple presentations is allowed.

Contributed papers are 12 minutes in duration, with three minutes for questions. Contributed posters must not exceed 4 feet in height and 4 feet in width and will be displayed for the duration of the meeting. Poster presenters should plan to be available to answer questions during the poster session.

Submit the Title, Presenter(s), Affiliation, Address, Phone & FAX numbers, e-mail address along with the Abstract. Abstracts must be less than 150 words. Titles of abstracts are limited to 10 words.

 

Meeting Highlights

 

Virginia Trimble, noted astrophysicist, essayist, and winner of the AAPT’s Klopsteg Award will speak on “The Dark Century: Matter, Energy and the Future of the Universe”.

Friday Night Demo Show by Bill McNairy; Friedmann’s Balloon, a one-act play by Sidney Perkowitz, will be presented by Duke Physics finest.

Ronen Plesser, string theorist and Associate Chair of Duke Physics will give a short presentation on outreach efforts to primary and secondary schools followed by a visit to the Duke Forest Observatory (weather permitting)

Friday and Saturday afternoon of Duke Physics Research Laboratories Tours

o Medical Physics, Quantum Optics, Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory, Duke Free Electron Laser, More…

Saturday Afternoon Workshops:

o Wolfgang Christian and Mario Belloni will lead a 2- hour workshop on Quantum Mechanics Physlets
