Expectations of Lab Students:

Grading:

PY131 is made up of 10 labs, with a makeup lab offered at the end of the semester. Please refer to the Lab Report Guidelines before writing your report. Each report is expected to include a title page, a lab abstract, and then any discussion questions in the lab manual. Written reports are due one week after your lab. Late labs will be accepted with a 20% penalty in the first week late, and will not be accepted after that point.

The overall lab grade is worth 10% of your overall class grade. If you receive less than a 50% in lab you will receive an F in the lecture class, regardless of your other grades in lecture.

This semester we are continuing to try out Wolfware to store your lab grades. Please be patient with the TAs as this will be the first time most of them have used this system. Please email your TA if you have any problems.

Plagiarism and Working Together:

Labs will be worked in groups, so data and results will be shared. However, any submitted work MUST be written individually. Students may NOT work together in writing lab reports. Reports that are identical or substantially the same will receive a grade of zero, and the lab may NOT be made up. Additionally, a student may NOT use any lab report from a previous semester, EVEN HIS/HER OWN, for ANY reason in writing lab reports this semester. Any suspected plagiarism will be investigated and reported through the university's plagiarism procedures.

Attendance:

Please arrive on time, if you are more than 10 minutes late for your scheduled lab, you will be asked to leave.

If you miss a lab please contact your TA immediately and try to reschedule the lab during that week.

Making Up a Lab:

If you miss a lab please fill out the making-up a lab form[PDF]. Notice that you need to get your lecture professor to sign the form. Without a form you will not be admitted to another lab. Please note that you can only make up a lab if you missed because of a family emergency, a university sponsored event or an illness(with a doctors note). If you missed for another reason you can not make up a lab.

Once you have the form signed you need to attend another scheduled section of the lab and turn in your make up form to the TA. However, if you wish to attend a section that already is full than the students registered for that section have priority and you will be asked to leave the lab.

To attend the make-up lab at the end of the semester you must get this form filled out and then signup for a make-up section during the last weeks of labs. This may only be used to replace a MISSED lab, not to substitute a low score on a graded lab (to effectively "drop" the lowest score).
